About Me
Hello! I’m Maja, a cellist and pedagouge who enjoys helping students develop their skills, musicality, and confidence on the cello. My own journey with the cello has been shaped by years of study, performance, and continuous learning—and I’m excited to share that experience with you.
I believe that learning the cello is about much more than mastering technique. It’s about personal growth, creative expression, and building meaningful connections through music. My teaching approach combines mental and deliberate practice with personalized guidance to support your individual goals and pace.
In my lessons, you can expect a supportive and encouraging environment where creativity and structure go hand in hand. Whether you’re a beginner just starting out, returning to the cello after a break, or an advanced player looking to deepen your skills, I tailor each lesson to help you grow confidently and enjoy the process.
If you’re interested in starting lessons or want to learn more, feel free to get in touch—I’d be happy to help you on your musical journey.
BIO
Education
I completed my Staatsexamen (a five-year program comparable to a Master’s degree) in Music Education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, studying under Clemens Weigel. During this time, I also took lessons in Baroque cello with Prof. Kristin von der Goltz and focused on chamber music with Prof. Dirk Mommertz, performing in various settings such as piano trio and clarinet trio ensembles.
Addtionally I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts at the University of Stavanger in Norway, where I studied modern cello with Ilmari Hopkins and deepened my interest in historical performance through Baroque cello lessons with Liv Opdal.
Teaching Experience
Since 2018, I have been teaching students of all levels—from young beginners to advanced players, including both children and adults. My teaching experience extends across Germany and Norway, where I have offered lessons in both German and English. In Germany, I primarily provided private cello instruction and held a substitute teaching position at the Kreismusikschule Fürstenfeldbruck. My pedagogical approach emphasizes musicality, a solid technical foundation, and supporting each student’s individual musical development.
In addition to teaching cello, I have also taught piano, notably coaching music education students in preparation for their final exams at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.
Musical Experience
As a performer, I have appeared in a variety of settings across Europe. A particularly meaningful highlight was a concert series in Stavanger, Norway, in collaboration with the Reidar Berge Museum for the artist’s 100th anniversary. As part of the Malia String Duo, we framed the event with live music.
I have participated in masterclasses with renowned artists including Thomas Carroll, Christian Poltera, Lorenzo Meseguer Lujan, Jeroen den Herder, and Viola de Hoog. My chamber music training includes courses and coaching sessions with ensembles such as the Maggini Quartet (Lillehammer), the Marmen Quartet (Malmö), as well as masterclasses with Clemens Weigel, Aiko Mizushima, and Prof. Jürgen Weber.
